The European Settlement of Australia is a similar story to that told of the brothers Cain and Abel in the Bible. It is a story as old as man and applicable to all ages and cultures. Like that historical narrative, the European settlement of the “Great Southern Land” tells us not so much about our heritage, but reveals the darker nature of man. The plot remains the same, man is willing to kill his brother in order to acquire what he wants. However, within our uniquely Australian story, the crime is on a grander scale and has left a legacy of a dislocated and broken indigenous culture.
